Campfire – winter exhibition 2022-2023
CAMPFIRE
17 December 2022 until 28 January 2023
In the run-up to Christmas and with the final days of 2022 in sight, there is time for contemplation and reflection.
The work of Klara Brynge (1980 Sweden), Ildikó Dánfalvi (1989 Hungary) and Sarah Powell (1984 UK) invites you to look, ponder, ask and listen. And what better place to sit and listen to beautiful stories than by the crackling and glowing warmth of a campfire? We invite you to join us.
On Saturday 17 December 2022, the doors will be open from 15.45 hrs. and at 16.00 hrs. the exhibition will be officially opened.
Klara Brynge, Ildikó Dánfalvi and Sarah Powell will all three be present. This is your chance for a meet and greet and to hear the artists’ tale behind the work.
We hope to see you there.
In ‘Campfire’, Swedish artist Klara Brynge talks about drawings of landscapes and surfaces, of rhythm and space. Drawings that are sometimes made on paper, but more often with hammer and fire in silver. The physical properties of the metal – thickness, weight, resistance and malleability – make the result of the drawing enchantingly powerful and 3-dimensional.
Much (traditional) jewellery is worn because it is a memento, a reminder and a symbol to reinforce and support a thought, a loved one, faith. Hungarian Ildikó Dánfalvi plays with this custom: the habit of wearing protective symbols. Her rings, brooches and necklaces are contemporary amulets full of stories.
Finally, you will see stories in London clay and southern English oil shale, which were found by the artist in her native country (UK). Above, Below, Middle is the name of the new series in which Sarah Powell has used these two ancient materials to create timeless art jewellery in powerful forms and with many different associations.
