Mielle Harvey lives and works in the United States of America and is coming to the Netherlands especially for this opening. She is looking forward to meeting you and telling you about her work.

Ruff is the title of a new collection of art jewellery, drawings and paintings by Mielle Harvey, starring bees, birds and fingers.
Mielle Harvey creates jewellery consisting of wearable sculptures using lost wax technique. She is however also a master in creating mysterious drawings with graphite, acrylic and oil paint, and detailed oil paintings. Her work is inspired by Dutch 17th-century still lifes and portraits. This can be seen in the techniques she uses to create beautifully detailed fabric expressions and the use of highlights and shadow. In terms of content Harvey’s work also has a strong similarity with 17th-century painting; the themes of transience and ‘carpe diem’ (seize the day) are omnipresent.
With Ruff, meaning pleated collar, Mielle Harvey presents a painterly collection in which birds and butterflies, bees, graceful folds, and quilts take us on a journey of imagination. Harvey’s ceaseless wonder at the cycle of life and death, industriousness and togetherness, human contribution and fertility has once again resulted in an exciting collection of artworks.
